Bloemfontein gets R60m business hotel
Protea Hotels will be launching a new R60m business hotel in Bloemfontein, which is set to open in April next year. Construction on the 94-bedroomed hotel, named Protea Hotel Willow Lake, has started late May.
Regional Director for Protea Hotels, Mr Bill Ford, said that business hotels have proven to be successful as with Protea Hotel Nelspruit and Protea Hotel Mafikeng and it is this model that will be used for Protea Hotel Willow Lake.
The hotel will be situated on the grounds of the Bloemfontein Zoo and will have a game lodge theme in line with the property’s eco-diverse surroundings. Permanent and temporary jobs during the development phase will be created and overall it will give a boost to the local economy. The ability to create eco-diverse and sustainable investments in the tourism industry is the key to the future of tourism, according to the director of Zoo Lodge (Pty) Ltd, Mr Phanus Zondagh.
Protea Hotel Willow Lake will be located within minutes of the Bloemfontein world cup stadium and it will satisfy the need for accommodation of visitors to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
The Lodge will be a major contributor to the preservation and protection of the animal species in the Zoo and the Free State Tourism Authority is excited about this initiative and believes that the industry should be conscious of the environment and how to preserve it.
